CEBC Cyprus Meeting 2009

Consortium of European Building Control (CEBC) 20th Anniversary Meeting at Limassol, Cyprus 12th October 2009

The Consortium of European Building Control (CEBC) is a pan – European body that represents the profession of Building Control across Europe. Now in its 20th year the Consortium was formed in 1989 following discussions between the Institute of Building Control (now amalgamated with RICS) and the EC Commission. They recognised the need to safeguard Building Control activities and promote their significance within a rapidly changing Europe.

The Consortium meets as a body twice a year at locations around Europe. A theme is chosen for each meeting depending on the country visited. A typical meeting may include a technical site visit and papers given linked to a particular theme

On 12th October 2009, 44 delegates from 23 countries met in Limassol for the Consortium´s 41st business meeting to discuss matters relevant to the profession of Building Control, including building regulations, construction legislation, sustainability, construction products and ancillary matters.

The inaugural meeting of the Consortium was held in Brussels in August 1989 where five member countries, United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands decided that the formation of a pan-Europe Building Control body would be beneficial for the furtherance of public health and safety, and good building practice.

Guest of honour at the Cyprus meeting was Peter Hart, the first Secretary General of the Consortium, and one of the members of the former Institute of Building Control who were instrumental in taking CEBC forward through its first ten years.
