Spray foam insulation

Information Note

If you are planning to install spray foam insulation in your property, you might need to make a Building Regulation application for this work. You should contact your local Building Control office for further information.

Here are some things you will need to consider:

  • Have the proposed material and installation methods been suitably tested to ensure that they are fit for purpose?
  • Will reasonable measures be taken to ensure that the building is protected from moisture in the form of interstitial condensation?
  • Will suitable measures be put in place to inhibit the spread of fire along any exposed wall and ceiling linings?
  • Will adequate measures be in place to conserve fuel and power by limiting heat loss?
  • Will combustible material be kept sufficiently remote from any existing flue, fluepipe, or chimney or down lighter to ensure that it shall not cause damage to the building by fire?

You can find additional information in relation to Spray Foam Insulation on the RICS and HSE websites.
